I use this quote every year on the first of January...I think it says so much and I often remind myself to look for the potential more often..
Cap'n plucked this baby out of his garden on New Yrs Eve for our Jan 1 meal of black eyed peas n cabbage. For good luck and good fortune..me thinks he was really looking for alot of fortune with this one!!!! 😚
Hoppin' John and fried cabbage!!!
mmmmmmm....
We had a wonderful Christmas with all of our family gathered together, thank you Jesus!!
Everyone started coming in around noon on xmas eve and the weather was just perfect for being outside. The kids rode all of the fun vehicles/toys that cap'n keeps around here. As well as making gingerbread houses!
Never matters how many times during the holidays that they make these cute lil houses...they always have fun doing them together!
I had decided not to have a sit-down meal, instead just doing buffet style. So there was all kinds of foods from a big tenderloin roll to gumbo w/potato salad to marinated crab claws and shrimp butter to chicken salad croissants along with loads of dips and cheeses and breads....and well, you get it!!!
My wish was for everyone to eat what they wanted, when they wanted and to eat all day long!
It was perfect!! And I didn't get a single picture because I was just too busy playing and laughing to even think about it -- just as it should be!!!
All the gorgeous boys in my life!!
And then the chaos of opening presents began......which becomes my favorite time to just sit back with a nice glass of wine and just watch!!! Oh, the kid's laughter and the talking and sharing and playing is just sheer perfection!!! Just one of the moments when I realize that all the work and all the planning is so worth it!!
The celebration at YaYa & Cap'n's ended only after the reading of The Night Before Christmas to the grands.. from the same book that I read from to my 3 little boys every Christmas Eve of their lives!!
It's a ritual with us....even last yr when we couldn't all be together in 2020. we facetimed all of them and I read the book to them!!
With tired lil eyes and the anticipation of Santa's arrival, two of the families traveled back to their homes to wait on him. Our Plano group stayed here to find Santa's work in the morning.
On Christmas Day, we drove to our middle boy's home for a beautiful lunch of prime rib, creamed spinach, green beans and mashed potatoes!! And of course, to see all that Santa had brought the granddaughters!!
Upon arrival back home, it was time for a long winter's nap for this ol' YaYa with the memories of another wonderful Christmas with my family. I am one blessed mom, mom in law and grandmom...and I appreciate every dingle dangle minute of it!!!!
Fast forward to this morning.....
a hot cup of cappucino and temps outside of 27 degrees with a dusting of ice and snow on the roof.....yesterday it was 75 degrees!!!!! 😲😲😲
I welcome 2022 with hopes and dreams of a healthy new year where only trust and honesty in our government and leaders abound. Where there is no fear of what the next day will bring if you've been to the grocery store and our doctors and nurses stay safe.
I have not lost faith....I'll take Faith over Fear every day!!
