OH HAPPY DAY!!!

Last week when I got a call from my daughter in law telling me that they had decided it was ok for their girls to come spend a night with me ... excitement is a very under rated word here!!!  I was OVER THE MOON ECSTATIC!!

Because my middle boy had open heart surgery in 2016, with two subsequent hospital stays over the next two years, he most definitely has underlying conditions which make it of the utmost importance that he does not get this virus. So he and his whole family has been in heavy quarantine since last March.  In fact, my oldest son's family has also been quarantined because  their mom also has underlying conditions.  And, because of my age.....meaning I'm old!.....we have also been staying home and away from people too.  All of this to explain that I've not been able to physically touch or hug or read to my grandchildren in 7 months.  That makes for a not so happy YaYa!  September marked the one year mark since matt's last hospitalization and he felt like his kids needed to see their grandparents......!!!!!!!!!  Bless his heart!!   Hence, OVER THE MOON ECSTATIC!!!!   The rest of this post will be filled with pictures of our time together.....Lilli, KatieJane and YaYa!

We always pick wildflowers when they come....
We went pumpkin pickin' from Cap'ns garden!
They decided that ms. PoppyPearl needed a hair-do!!
who, by the way, also thinks that it is time to see some Fall around here!!
Of course, we spent some time in the kitchen!  We made ghost doughnuts and they loved them!

Just being able to watch these girls talk and play and LAUGH was all I needed to go on in this crazy world we're living in.  And those HUGS!!!

I also got to visit with my grandsons at their house one afternoon last week!!!
and their brand new puppy, River Anne!!!!! (who I think looks a little bit like PoppyPearl!)

So, if I can now just spend some time with my other two, that live in Plano, my world will once again be spinning as it should be!!!!!

ALL FALL......!!

I cannot believe we have FALL right now!!!  Not to say, it won't turn back to 95 degrees any day but right now it's absolutely lovely.....crisp mornings, cool sunny days and almost chilly nights!!!!  And it's gotten me in the mood for fall decor.....

But first.....time to pick some pumpkins from the gardens!!

Finally bought a new wreath from @kandiskreationsco.  It's fun!

Cap'n is still harvesting produce from the garden..this afternoon, we picked fresh mustard greens and rattlesnake beans (?) which are awesome, squash...I made a new recipe also for dinner.

MUSTARD GREEN CREOLE DIRTY RICE!!
1 T  canola oil
1 medium sized yellow onion, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 poblano chili, seeded and chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
4 oz sausage, andouille or pork jimmie dean!
1 cup uncooked long grain rice
1 T fresh thyme
crushed red pepper flakes
2 tsp smoked paprika
2 cups chicken stock
8 oz greens, stems and ribs removed, chopped
salt n pepper, to taste
hot sauce

Saute onion, celery and poblano until translucent. Add garlic. Add sausage that has been crumbled and cooked till no longer pink.  Add rice, thyme, red pepper and paprika and cook for 1 min. Stir in stock, greens, salt and pepper. Bring to boil and cover and reduce heat to low.  Simmer until rice is tender, about 20-25 minutes.  I let mine sit, covered to blend flavors.  Top with green onions and sprinkle top with tobasco.

YUM. YUM!!!!  The mustard greens gave this dirty rice a nice flavor and I will be making this again!!

My basil is still producing and I'm making fresh pesto (adding spinach and avocado) as fast as it gives me big green leaves.  Freeze in ice cube trays and then stored in ziplock bags in freezer. Perfect amount for 2 servings of pasta!!

Our trees are not yet turning colors but we've got plenty of greens (pesto) oranges (pumpkins), yellows (squash) and reds around here now!!

And guess what????!!!!!!!  I'm going to get to have 2 of my grandchildren spend a night with me this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I haven't had them for a sleepover since last March......I cannot wait!!!
