Our Girl had a Birthday!!

And that girl would be our first daughter in law....ms. rachel!!!  Yesterday, May 23 was her big day!!
One day last week, Amy and I and the girls showed up at the deer camp, where they are quarantining, and had a lil picnic with her!  Crazy to think how long she's been a part of our family.....I can't even imagine NOT having her ~~ she makes everything fun!!
Always laughing and always making all of us laugh with her antics!!
She's a great friend to her sister in laws too!
and I can't even say enough about what a wonderful MOM she is...she loves those kids with every fiber of her being!
But probably the reason I love her the most is because she loves my son as much as I do.
I knew when he married her that he would have someone to love him for the rest of his life!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET RACHEL...WE LOVE YA MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER KNOW!!!

A Day I'll Never Forget!!

Today was day 67 of corona quarantine...getting old but better safe than sorry.  My family has been blessed and we are safe.  Not gonna say I'm not still cryin' in my beers about having to cancel our family trip to the beach.  But my family is all safe.  For that I must be thankful.

Last week I had a request from some of my grandchildren for banana nut bread, m&m cookies and oatmeal cookies.  So, Monday morning I was up and at 'em baking the morning away.

My middle daughter in law had told me she and the girls would be coming by to drop off a just arrived mother's day surprise.  I had just finished cleaning up the kitchen and sitting at my puzzle in the sun room when I heard honking.  Loud honking.  And lots of it!!!  I went to the front door and what to my wondering eyes did I see??????  My son's truck followed by one daughter in laws car followed by another daughter in law's car followed by another daughter in law's car......WITH ALL MY GRANDCHILDREN HANGING OUT ALL OF THE WINDOWS AND HOLLERING!!!!!  My driveway is about a 1/4 of a mile long so it was actually a parade of hoodlums coming to see me!!
I cannot tell you how happy I was.....cap'n was in on the secret and he had put out socially distanced chairs under the patio out at the driveway...so our visit was following all the rules.  But just to HEAR all my grandchildren laughing and talking to each other was pure music to my ears.  We sat out there all afternoon......while kids ate all the cookies and were able to actually see each other in person.
Heaven, I tell ya!!!
They had a snuggle blanket made for me with my fave pic of all time of all my grandbabies!!!
It is just perfect and not only me, but also ms. Poppy Pearl, love it.  We lay in it every night before bedtime!

I CAN EASILY SAY THAT THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED ON THIS DAY AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE ETCHED IN MY MIND AND HEART...my daughter in laws are SO thoughtful and all I can say is that when your sons marry women who love them just as much as I do --
that's all I could ever ask for in my lifetime!!!!

What's been cookin' around the ol' ponderosa??
Chicken Pot Pie! one night

I've gone down the tunnel of recipes for one pot pastas ....
Orchietta pasta, asparagus, mushrooms and garlic....
all cooked together until the pasta water has cooked away....add a little cream and monterrey jack cheese.   Delicious!!

Planning on a quietly quarantined Memorial Day this weekend.
Hope you do the same!!!

Keepin' On Keepin' On....Take That Corona!!!!

Day 63 of Quarantine:   As much as I would KILL to have my nails done and my toes done and my hair cut and my new puppy dog's hair cut...we forge on with staying home.  We social distance with our children and grandchildren...so add hugging my family to that mix above!!  We must - for the safety of my middle son and first daughter in law.  Not that I don't worry about all the others too, ourselves included, but those two have underlying issues that make them easily susceptible to this silent enemy.  Protecting them is of utmost importance.

We carry on.  Cap'n stays very busy with his massive gardening project.  He is mass producing food for the whole family.  If the quarantining weren't a "thing", we could SO teach the babies lessons in entrepreneurship by setting them up a Vegetable Stand on the side of the road and let them learn all about supply and demand!!!!  We will have corn, purple hull peas, snap beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, cabbage, peppers, watermelon and cantaloupe!!!!!!  I am so proud of his work....it's like a piece of art!!

Cap'n sitting under the shade of an old oak tree after an afternoon of working in his garden!

Meanwhile, out at the deer camp which is quarantine headquarters for one of the families, the sweet sweet sightings of wild dewberries were found!!!!  So off the mama and dad took my grandson and granddaughter to pick wild dewberries!!

My daughter in law made fresh dewberry jelly, which I luxuriously slathered on my Mother's Day pancakes!
They gave me a bucketful too and I made some dewberry jam....I like all the seeds and pulp!!!
(plus, it's not as much work...heheh!)
This family, up there, are city folk!  They live right outside of Dallas so it's been a real learning experience for those kids to be living waaaaaaaay out in the countryside for the past 2 1/2 months.  Every day is a lesson that they would not have learned sitting in the classroom.....like dewberry picking!!!   Oh....and here's another lesson they prolly wouldn't have learned there either!!!!
science lesson #243
(there has to be at least that many!)

that would be the RATTLE that my 5yr old granddaughter is happily holding!!!!!!!
I have to admit that their classroom has a much nicer view in the countryside than inside four walls of the school house!!!

Over at Tall Timber Farms, my youngest boy's new home place, they are learning just as much out in nature as the city kids!!!
Their place is a wonderland for little boys to play in!
In this gorgeous pond, there is THIS to be found!
and small brothers catch small fish!!!
They also gained new family members....which their mom has become quite attached to!
lesson #122 in Agriculture!
and even tho this is a chicken.....his name seems to be DUCK!!!!!

On another side of town, there is a brand NEW place of quarantine for my middle boy and his family!!
They moved into their new house at the end of April....moving during quarantine - not a great time but it got done!
Closing the door for last time at their old house...
and into the new one!!
Beautiful neighborhood and a great school district!
Rocking on the front porch with mama!
Swimming in new pool with new pup, Gypsy!
Good tree climbing trees in the backyard!
They've even learned a few agricultural lessons by working in their dad's garden!!

So, nice to say that we're all staying busy during these stressful times and kids are thriving by learning new things every day and being home schooled by their moms.
(moms are going to need major vacation when all of this is over...and well deserved!!)
Poppy Pearl and I tend to do a lot of flower gardening and being quite lazy at the lake!!!!

It's Summertime and the Livin' is Easy...despite any ol' crazy, mean virus!!!!

(was going to be pie but .... ahem, somebody had quite a bowlful on his ice cream last night!)
