Summertime is Hot and the Livin' is Easy...
That should be corrected to the livin' is easy...unless the thermometer is reading 98 degrees with a real feel of 108!!! It is hot, ya'll......the kinda hot where you find yourself gasping for air but can't seem to find it because the humidity is about 98%. But what can we say...we live in the deep south and it's August!!! It's all we know. So, we just keep enjoying the bounties of summer and keep waiting for the light to begin to change from bright and hard to softer and more filtered, whispering to us that Fall will be knocking on our door before we know it!!
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

That Time of Year .....
You know the drill ..............summer turns into fall........late nights turn into early ones which lead to early mornings.....and BACK ON THAT SCHOOL BUS!!! 4 of our 6 grands have taken those steps into the school house and have begun the process that we often refer to as The Grind!!! Although, I highly doubt that there is too much grind in kindergarten, first grade, second grade and fourth grade!!!!!!
No matter what they call it, we do know we had some cute lil grinders on their first day back to school 2019-2020...(doesn't that just sound like the jetson's futuristic years??)

the really cray-cray kids....the babies who are 3 and 4, haven't started their pre-school programs yet but I'm sure when they do, you'll feel the wind blow where ever you are because they are "very cool for school"!!
But the ones who are REALLY excited about school starting are you know who's!!!
THE MOMS!!!!
(photo cred to hailey)
Looks like a few others are ready for the seasons to change too....

Cap'n is Canning!!!
Since summer is a time of 'fruit'fulness, we have been taking full advantage of the harvests!! Yrs ago my son planted fruit trees of all sorts at our deer camp property. For the first few years, there was not much yield. But this year the peaches have been awesome....Cap'n started picking and picking and picking until we had quite a nice amount on the kitchen counter! So, we started peeling and freezing because, after all, what is better than fresh peaches and ice cream???
then I tried a new refrigerator peach preserve recipe that is made using microwave??? wha??? Tastes pretty good!
Cap'n even made one of his renowned peach cobblers......YUM!!
Wouldn't be the end of july without some fresh purple hull peas to put up in my freezer!!
Feelin' like a cocky squirrel with his nuts stored for winter!!!
THEN....Cap'n said something about figs. My daughter in law said her grandmother made the best fig preserves and they had a tree that was overloaded with ripe figs now. The next thing we knew, her grandfather had picked A LOT of figs and delivered them thru my son to Cap'n!!!
And he went to work!! Using Gram's recipe!!
He even picked, sliced, cooked and canned some pears for preserves just for me cuz I love 'em.
Those came from our trees at camp too!
mmmmmmmmm....good!
We been busy ... but it's all good cuz ...
and some fresh figs or pears or peaches or peas!!!!!
