I could say "WOE IS ME" .... because we had not one but two encounters with broken pipes during our cold weather last week. At our lakehouse. And the funny thing? One was not even weather related. The tubing behind the refrigerator that sends water to the door and ice maker sprung a leak and it could have happened in July!! Main problem is that we are not at the house every day so we're not sure how long it was spraying water into the kitchen, which ran into the living room, which ran into the hallway....a neighbor called us to tell us that water was running from the house to the underneath area. Lake house is above ground on 10-15 foot posts. When we got there, the mopping and sopping began but it was evident that there was a lot of damage. Then last week, a pipe under the house that is connected to the kitchen sink froze and burst. One of the few pipes that my boyfriend hadn't replaced in our 1970's house. So, believe me.....the last few weeks while recovering from flu and Christmas and crazy, cold weather in the south....I was saying, WOE IS ME!!!
So, even tho our lake house is turned upside down right now with no flooring and some of the walls torn up...I have been picking out new floors and deciding how to fix our little bathroom in the house. The house has been re-plumbed and today the workers pulled all the old floors up and will be starting new sub floors tomorrow. But take a look at the fun stuff I'm picking out!!
Whole house will be done in this Lexington Oak plank flooring. I've chosen a vinyl plank floating floor because it seems to be 100% water resistant....we have had too many close calls with river flooding and tin roof leaks to worry about water damage anymore. It really is a pretty color and I pray I'm making the right decision on this one. It's always a risk when choosing something new, ya know?
Only room that will have different flooring is our little bathroom. In here, I'm going bold!
Using this tile on the floor and also in the shower. Tub is white so I'm thinking the white tub will break up the pattern a bit. I'm also using the same black vanity as the one shown above. Walls are white and the accent color will be lime green with splash of aqua!!! It IS a lake house, after all!!!
I'm very excited! Our lil lake house is such a haven for us and I think these little changes are going to make it even cuter.
The insurance guy said to just replace all the walls....and I found myself saying NO!!! That same paneling that was so dark when we moved in and I HATED.....adds so much character and sentimental value to me now. Plus, it's all painted white and oozes 1970!!!
Will post pics when it's all done.
So.....we've been busy little builders lately....specially the Cap'n. He's building a new "tractor shed"/rec room at the deer camp, which began as a small room for the g'kids to play...and has turned into a 2 bedroom, kitchen, living and 4 huge porch structure! Ahem...did I say g'kids??? How 'bout
BIG KIDS??...foose ball table, dart boards, shuffle board....you getting what I'm putting down??!
Should be moving into that in next month or so...will post pics then. It's c-o-o-l!!
Some fave pics of the little families during snow time!
Pulling those little girls behind them on 4-wheeler!! They had a blast doing "snow stuff" that day!
These two little boys had been diagnosed with 2 strains of flu days before the snow fell.....do you think that could have kept them inside?? No way, jose!!!!
Little one played for a while..the big one played ALL day long!!!!!
Our Plano, TX bunch didn't get any snow that stuck...we wish they'd been here to play!
Holidays, sickness (5 outa 6 grandbabies were sick & some mamas & me), very cold and SNOWY days, 8 of our 14 family members birthdays in January and February, building and re-building houses.....
