Full and Fun Weekends!

I missed baby Josey's birthday this year which was on January 5.  They live in another town and we had all just been together for Christmas, so they stayed put.  Because she and her brother were coming to stay with me for this weekend.....so mom and dad could have a nice date....I decided that we needed to make her a birthday cake.  So, she and I worked and worked and worked!!
Since they were here, may as well add two more to the mix, right?  The girl's mom planned a nice dinner out with her friend; we all need that every once in a while!  My mother in law used to always tell me, when she kept all 7 of hers, that it was just as easy to keep them all as just one......whew!!!!
Was she crazy?????
they played in the rain and mud for hours....my bathroom will never be the same!!!
they watched for and snuck up on the deer grazing at the feeder....see the arrow?
they layed around and laughed and talked and you know.....just hung out at YaYa's house!
Our two other lil boys were busy getting ready for Lane's birthday party that was held on Sunday.
His real birthday isn't until the 4th so I'll save all the pics for that day.....believe me, cutest party EVER!
Little hint at what the theme was.....in the south at this time of year???!!!!

They are all so sweet and they make me laugh, continuously.
They play so well together and I pray they stay close throughout their lifetimes.
They are my grandchildren......precious precious children!!!

A Small Baby Girl who Became My First Grandchild...

...Became an 8 yr. old sweet girl today!!  WHERE has that time gone???  Seems like only seconds ago that my world became the most beautiful sphere of pink, lace and lots and lots of LOVE!!  LILLI LOVE!  Remember, I raised 3 sons....this was a whole new ball game for me....one that I never could have imagined would be so much fun!

~A round, pink bebe
~came into our lives and changed it for good.
~She loves, she learns and she is eager to please all she meets
~We see only positive, bright stars encircle her head
~when she smiles or talks and especially when she lets us know she loves us.
~She is our first grandchild and will always hold a very special place in our hearts!!
Her mom picked her up early from school and told her we would go to lunch wherever she wanted to go and also spend the afternoon doing exactly what she wanted to do.
Not surprising...she chose the aquarium and lunch at the cafe there.

we had lunch and she opened presents and petted a lot of starfish and manta rays!
And of course, I was a guardian angel's helper as well--Lilli and KatieJane's maternal grandmother passed away when Lilli was only 6 months old.  And Granna, her grandmother, loved her like no other...like she was a china doll to be treasured forever (which she will be!)  Since Granna can't be here for Lilli's birthdays, I always bring her a rose for every yr of her life, just like Granna would have done if she could be here!
Had to explain to KatieJane that I'm just Granna's helper here on earth while secretly thinking to myself "I bet granna has been my lil helper many times up in heaven getting me outa trouble down here!!!"
8 roses for the 8 yrs of Lilli's life!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET LILLIAN LEIGH LOVE!!!

Pipes that Burst = New Decor!!

I could say "WOE IS ME" .... because we had not one but two encounters with broken pipes during our cold weather last week.  At our lakehouse.  And the funny thing?  One was not even weather related.  The tubing behind the refrigerator that sends water to the door and ice maker sprung a leak and it could have happened in July!!  Main problem is that we are not at the house every day so we're not sure how long it was spraying water into the kitchen, which ran into the living room, which ran into the hallway....a neighbor called us to tell us that water was running from the house to the underneath area.  Lake house is above ground on 10-15 foot posts.  When we got there, the mopping and sopping began but it was evident that there was a lot of damage.  Then last week, a pipe under the house that is connected to the kitchen sink froze and burst.  One of the few pipes that my boyfriend hadn't replaced in our 1970's house.  So, believe me.....the last few weeks while recovering from flu and Christmas and crazy, cold weather in the south....I was saying, WOE IS ME!!!

So, even tho our lake house is turned upside down right now with no flooring and some of the walls torn up...I have been picking out new floors and deciding how to fix our little bathroom in the house.  The house has been re-plumbed and today the workers pulled all the old floors up and will be starting new sub floors tomorrow.  But take a look at the fun stuff I'm picking out!!

Whole house will be done in this Lexington Oak plank flooring.  I've chosen a vinyl plank floating floor because it seems to be 100% water resistant....we have had too many close calls with river flooding and tin roof leaks to worry about water damage anymore.  It really is a pretty color and I pray I'm making the right decision on this one.  It's always a risk when choosing something new, ya know?
Only room that will have different flooring is our little bathroom.  In here, I'm going bold!

Using this tile on the floor and also in the shower.  Tub is white so I'm thinking the white tub will break up the pattern a bit.  I'm also using the same black vanity as the one shown above. Walls are white and the accent color will be lime green with splash of aqua!!!  It IS a lake house, after all!!!
I'm very excited!  Our lil lake house is such a haven for us and I think these little changes are going to make it even cuter.
The insurance guy said to just replace all the walls....and I found myself saying NO!!!  That same paneling that was so dark when we moved in and I HATED.....adds so much character and sentimental value to me now.  Plus, it's all painted white and oozes 1970!!!
Will post pics when it's all done.

So.....we've been busy little builders lately....specially the Cap'n.  He's building a new "tractor shed"/rec room at the deer camp, which began as a small room for the g'kids to play...and has turned into a 2 bedroom, kitchen, living and 4 huge porch structure!  Ahem...did I say g'kids???  How 'bout
BIG KIDS??...foose ball table, dart boards, shuffle board....you getting what I'm putting down??!
Should be moving into that in next month or so...will post pics then.  It's c-o-o-l!!

Some fave pics of the little families during snow time!
Pulling those little girls behind them on 4-wheeler!!  They had a blast doing "snow stuff" that day!
These two little boys had been diagnosed with 2 strains of flu days before the snow fell.....do you think that could have kept them inside??  No way, jose!!!!
Little one played for a while..the big one played ALL day long!!!!!
Our Plano, TX bunch didn't get any snow that stuck...we wish they'd been here to play!

Holidays, sickness (5 outa 6 grandbabies were sick & some mamas & me), very cold and SNOWY days, 8 of our 14 family members birthdays in January and February, building and re-building houses.....
WHEW!!
I feel the need for a very tropical vacation coming on!!!

Who’d A Thunk It??!!!! SNOW!

And would you like to talk about a lil girl puppydog( 17 yrs old) that has her dad WRAPPED????
...such a sweet thing for him to do!!
yesterday before the weather came in, he put a tarp down so she would have a non snow place to do her business!!!  Cuz what little girl wants to get her business wet???

First thing this morning, she knew just what to do!!!!
Spoiled rotten, I tell ya.  ROTTEN!!

the pic up in my banner ^^^ above was from march 2015. In all of my growing up years, I only saw snow one time when I was a senior in high school.   Now, I've probably seen it 6-8 times!!

Waiting for the SNOW!!!

As you know, waaaaaay down here in the south, we don't see snow very often.  But the weather forecasters have been saying for days that we might get 1-3 inches overnight tonight...WHA???????
And it might stick around for a whole day???  My buddy from WA state laughed so hard when I told her that while it was 62 degrees today and sunny, they had just cancelled schools for tomorrow!!!  My plan if it happens?   Snow angels, walks, camera time and a whole lotta nuthin' else!
So....SophieJane and I wait.....

Last week was fun for I got to spend the night with my college roomate and hang with sorority sisters; some of them I haven't seen in 40 yrs!  In fact, the one who sang in my wedding was there and I haven't seen her since 1977!!
They had even ordered a birthday cake for me and another!
Phi Mu sisters forever!

Then, over the weekend, I celebrated another friend's 60th birthday with a fun party at her house.
Get this -- her husband planned all of it, made all the phone calls, CLEANED HER HOUSE and did all the cooking........What???? Sweet!

GOOD TIMES!!

9:30 pm and no snow yet....hmmmmmmm!
Is it crazy to you Northerners that we are so pumped up about some "maybe" snow??
I'll let you know if it ever gets here!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET HAILEY!
Even tho she had to spend the first part of it at Urgent Care with those lil boys being diagnosed with the flu......sniff, sniff.....
But most days, she makes us laugh so much!!!

I've Stopped Counting the Years...

...choosing, instead, to cherish the memories!!
Today is mah birthday and I'm not liking the numbers as they creep and creep upward.  Yes, I do know the old saying that it's better than the alternative...but still.

I'm tired of the bones that creak and the lower back that screams at me.  The drooping skin and wrinkles that talk to me when I look into the mirror.  The eyesight that seems to get weaker and weaker as well as the stamina that seems to quit when doing things that I've done my whole life.  What is a youngster like me supposed to do?????????

Keep on, keeping on.  Appreciating life and all I've been afforded.  My darling husband and precious sons, my sweeter than life daughter in laws, 6 gorgeous grandchildren and friends that make my life so much fun.  Yes, I'm a pretty lucky chick, aches and pains and all.

What better birthday gift than looking out my sunroom windows to see even more friends in my backyard!!!  They come most every day and I find myself waiting in anticipation for their visit.  Yes, I'm a very lucky gal!!!

A "Nicer" 2018, I Pray!!

My annual quote for January 1 that a very dear friend gave me long ago that has always resonated with me.

As in southern tradition, cabbage and black eyed peas are on the menu for today. But first, sophiejane and I braved the 27 degree!!! temp.....yes, that's right, I said 27 degrees....which is c-r-a-z-y for our neck of the woods, to go out to the garden and harvest a fresh head of  cabbage from cap'n's patch!
This year I changed it up a bit and made a cabbage, rice and black eyed pea dressing....which was the perfect side dish for that beautiful filet mignon that cap'n cooked for me!

Black eyed peas for luck and cabbage for wealth in the new year -- hey! I'll do whatever it takes, right?!
Last night, I also burned my bayberry candle that was given to me by a good buddy!
I'm not messing with any of the positive ju-ju that has become folklore!!

So, as we begin another year in this crazy world, let us pray that things will settle down.  That people will learn to appreciate one another and be thankful for the abundances we've worked so hard to achieve.
To just be nice, like our mamas taught us to be!

“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” ― Carl Bard
