Last week two of my granddaughters came to stay with Cap'n and me while their parents worked on their Mexican tans, and they participated in Camp YaYa! It most certainly turned into a day camp for we did a different activity each and every day! And after bedtime each night, YaYa rested her weary bones!! (and weary they were...a 3 and 7 yr old are very active!!)
We began our fun by going to the deer camp where their cousins, Austin and Josey, came for the weekend. They play and play and play some more when they are all together. Throw in a mud puddle? and well....you know!
and guess who was washing 4 pairs of shoes as soon as we got back to the camp!
When they weren't outside playing, they spent a whole lotta time at this bar, waiting for meals!
They looooove Cap'n's breakfasts....and everything else he makes for them too!
We also did quite a bit of 4 wheeler riding too.....yep, we had Jack staying with us too!
Sunday afternoon arrived and it was time for the cousins to drive back home and the rest of us to head back to YaYa's house, where Cap'n often had a lapful!
Monday morning was full of sunshine and ms. Lilli said because of all the crafts I had gathered...
she said it was going to be the best day of her life!! Oh, how I love the innocence of a 7yr. old's mind!!
So, off we go to the backyard with our blanket and sheet to work on the first of what was to be "many" works of art!
Gave them a canvas with 3 globs of paint on it. A handful of saran wrap and they squished it around to make a background. Then they stenciled the stuff on top. They were very proud!
One day was proclaimed a "cooking day"! They were very happy to make their very own Easter cake...
Of course, we couldn't have a cooking day without aprons! They loved them and we think our lil Josey will too!!
Another art project was a water gun painting on canvas and I can't believe it but I didn't get a pic of final painting. They came out so cute and it only took about 1/2 a day to fill 8 water guns with just the right consistency of paint!!! I learned a lesson on that one.....have all tools READY when they are!
Just about every day their hands looked like this!
We spent a lot of time outside and they ran the fields and picked flowers until we sneezed our heads off!
One of our project days had to come inside because of cloudy weather but we just brought our work sheet into the sunroom and carried on. This day they made frames to decorate so when their mom and dad got home, they could put a beach pic in it to keep in their rooms.
Morning cereal by lantern light!
Picking from the garden with Cap'n and his new best friend!
I have my table set with an Easter theme and my pastel egg cups are on it. The girls were mesmerized with them so I thought I would try to teach them how to eat a soft boiled egg from one. Well....the look of the soft boiled egg did not go over very well with them....they were hoping for Cap'n's over easy eggs....so I thought maybe if I boiled them hard, they would try it. Katiejane turned her nose up totally but Lilli did try to eat one. Without a lot of luck! Oh well, at least they will know what they are if they ever see them in a restaurant. Camp YaYa is also a teaching camp, dontchaknow???!!
So the week ended with some tired little girls and one tired YaYa! But we laughed and told stories every night on the front porch swing before bedtime (I told em lots of stories about their daddy when he was little!) and hopefully memories were made for them.
I know there were for me and my time with them only reinforced what I already knew
I'M A VERY LUCKY YAYA!!!
