Nola....Again!

Why does it take so long to get another post up??  Photo shoot one day, kept grandbaby Josey for a couple days...and before you know it, its the weekend again.  Whoa....plz slow down life!!!

On my last day in New Orleans with my buddies, we got off to a slow start....before we knew it, we were sitting at The Bourbon House ready for brunch.  My pilates buddy sent me there to check out Leo and Snoop and get them to shell some oysters for me.  Hey....I love raw oysters, that was a given.
Half a dozen plain raw and half a dozen grilled with fresh crabmeat on top!  YUM!
Then we walked to the river and watched the steamboat waddle down the mighty Mississippi and walked down to Cafe du Monde.  Soon after, we absconded a table and chairs and umbrella on the corner of Bourbon and something. The sun was shining, the temps were warm and watching the traffic on Bourbon Street was pure entertainment!

Dinner this night was at Galatoire's...a restaurant full of history and grandeur.

Our Humble Beginning
Founded in 1905 by Jean Galatoire, this infamous address distinguished itself on Bourbon St. from its humble beginning. From the small village of Pardies, France, Jean Galatoire brought recipes and traditions inspired by the familial dining style of his homeland to create the menu and ambiance of the internationally-renowned restaurant. In its fifth generation, it is the Galatoire family and descendants who have carried the tradition of New Orleans’ fine dining restaurants and influenced its evolution.
The restaurant’s culinary customs and reservation statutes have been preserved with little change throughout the decades.
Consistency has been the greatest asset that Galatoire’s has displayed for more than a century. That consistency has carried through to an expansion in Baton Rouge with Galatoire's Bistro. In April 2013, Galatoire’s added a steakhouse to its family of restaurants with the opening of Galatoire's 33 Bar & Steak next door to the original Galatoire’s on Bourbon St.
Louisiana businessman John Georges is the majority owner of Galatoire’s, Galatoire’s Bistro and Galatoire’s 33 Bar & Steak. The three restaurants are also owned and partly operated by several descendants of the Galatoire family.
"One Friday, President Ronald Reagan placed a call to former U.S. Senator J. Bennett Johnston, who happened to be waiting in line for a table at Galatoire’s. After the President’s call ended, Senator Johnston graciously returned to his position in line."
Another night of good food, good wine and so much laughter!  We spent our last evening together at a jazz club with our very own private area listening to some great New Orleans music!
Another one for the memory book.....thanks girlfriends....we really know how to do it up right!!!

And speaking of that time with Josey.......
we had to move our picnic inside because of chilly weather...
she picked carrots out of Cap'n's garden...
even got to go watch cousin Lane get his very first haircut!!

Sigh.....it's been a good week!!!

Internet PEEPS who turned into Best Friends!!

You read that right!  Thru a book club back in 1998 for The Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood, I met many wonderful women who  became very good friends.  We began meeting up all over the country...and outside....as well as many phone calls and who knows how many emails! I even hosted a weekend at our lakehouse where 28 women showed up from all over the world who had never met face to face until they walked up on our deck.....and everyone of us got along like peanut butter and jelly.  And have, to this day, remained close.  So, it was some of these gals that I met up with in New Orleans - two from Spokane WA and one from St. Louis - and once again we had the time of our lives!

After the initial greetings of CAN'T BELIEVE WE'RE FINALLY BACK TOGETHER AGAIN...BEEN WAY TOO LONG...WILL NOT GO THIS LONG BEFORE GATHERING AGAIN!
We walked down to Canal Street where we hopped the appropriate street car to do a PUB CRAWL!
One of these gals is a super planner and she had everything mapped out of things to do.
First stop was:
Very cool and very old. Fun!
Next stop was Meauxbar....restaurant with a French feel.  Very different than the one before it. Here we had snacks....a cheese board with seared Pork Belly
Port of Call was our next stop and it was a super fun "happenin" place!

Then head out and what do we see????  We've turned the corner to...
So funny how things are celebrated in the French Quarter -- a free crawfish boil just because there is a full moon!!!!
And finally, we end up here...
Of course we do!!!  Bourbon Street!!
The rest of that night was filled with laughter, stories and more laughing!!
Up and not too early next morn, our planner extraordinaire took us to The Ruby Slipper for brunch.
where, of course, we started off with these!
(hair of the dog!)
and somebody had this!!!!
SHRIMP BOOGALOO BENEDICT
Gulf shrimp sauteed with pork tasso, served over fried green tomatoes & a buttermilk biscuit, topped with poached eggs, finished with a creole tomato courtbouillon sauce
Oh. My. Gawd.  That's all I got to say about that!!!!!
Back into the streetcar
two reasons for so many rides on streetcar: #1 they were helping me with my back issues by not walking so much and #2 we ventured more out into the town of Nola, instead of just staying around the French Quarter this time!
Went to the New Orleans park where the Museum of Art and the Scupture Garden is and while we were at it, got a "surry" to pedal all the way around in.  What a HOOT that was!!
Also, these gals come from the north where they have not seen their grass since before Thanksgiving. They've literally had snow on the ground for 3 months and all they wanted to do was be outside in our 72 (actually 81 that day) degree days!

I tried taking all the shortcuts that I could find!

but all that pedaling made us thirsty so we stopped in at our favorite lil bar for
Basil/Cucumber/Vodka lemonade!!!!
Sooooooooooooo Goooooooooood!
for dinner this night, we had reservations at Marcello's Italian Restaurant in the warehouse district.
Our transportation?  A bike ride driven by the sweetest lil Frenchman you ever could meet!

THE MOST FUN NIGHT EVER!!!
Best atmosphere. Best waiter. Best vino. Best food! Best Company!!
You know those dinners? Where you never want the evening to end??
Appetizers for the table:
~~Grilled Long Stem Artichokes
lemon basil aioli
~~Crabmeat Contessa
lump crabmeat, tomato, caper aioli, fried eggplant
My entree:
A.o.c.
lump crabmeat, anchovy, olive oil, pine nuts, capers, spaghetti, red pepper flakes
Whew!!!!  enough for tonight.........the rest of the rest of the story tomorrow!!!

God Was Very Busy!

When he painted this masterpiece of a sunset right outside my front door!

I am continually blown away by the talent of that man/woman!!!

"There's nothing like a beautiful sunset to end a healthy day. When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator. The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire".
