Mopping up on His Risen Day!!

How blessed we are that He did!!
Our Easter weekend was spent with power hoses, shovels and brooms. The flood waters at our lakehouse have receded and now it is time for clean up.  What the waters left behind is a thick murky sludge of gunk that s-t-i-n-k-s.  Really.  Our sons came last week with a crew of men to help which was a major step in what will be quite a process.  My boyfriend has been amazeballs in all of it.
So, we didn't have the usual family gathering and there were no chocolate rabbits or egg hunts this year but the boyfriend and I did manage a lil crawfish and a steak night after all the muscles had been spent and the bones worked to their capacity!
The only signs of Easter around our place were some flowers that I'd picked up from grocery store on Friday to help me remember the special weekend.
For those who know our place, you also know that by mid spring, my gardens are in full bloom. Not this year. They are caked with lake silt and have been under water for 14 days. Yet, when I got there on Friday, this is what I saw.....
one shining rose in full bloom!!  a sign to me to keep on working and that yes, soon, it will be back to its full glory.  Sort of a REBIRTH on such a blessed weekend!

All thru the day on Sunday, I kept getting a pic here and a pic there of some special little bunny munchkins, which really helped me get thru the day!

GOD IS GOOD!!

Another one for the Blog Collection!

(front cover)
2015's blog is now published and on the shelf for future reading!  As I've mentioned here before, I always make a book of each years blog postings for each of my children.  That way, they always have a running diary of our family's adventures, new developments and happy times.  It's always nice to use it as a reference when remembering exactly what we all did last summer or Christmas or just on plain ol' ordinary days!
I do the paperback books and this year's blog turned into a 267 page book.  I, obviously, did ALOT of chattering last year!!!  This is the 6th year I've done this.  Will give me lots of reading activities when those kids of mine put me off into some assisted living facility....which I've stressed to them must be in the Caribbean!

Random pages from the finished book. I've always been happy with the quality of the printed pages.
(back cover)
So see??  My blog is only all about our family and the Good Times in our lives!!
...and making sure we remember them...!

A True Lagniappe Post...

lagniappe =  a little bit of everything, or a little something extra!

May I begin with this lil tidbit of info.....IT'S RAINING AGAIN.
The river crested on Tuesday and began going down slowly...maybe 1 ft by this morning?  And then the rains came again this morning.  I just cannot even begin to tell you what my gut feels like today.

SO MUCH to catch up on....it's been a wee bit crazy around here since the first of the year. New baby Lane is getting bigger and sweeter by the day
Ms. Lilli lost, I don't know how many more teeth, but she keeps singin' All I Want for Chistmas is My Two Front Teeth!
Last weekend, when the lake place was going under, all our family gathered around for Austin's 4th birthday party and it sure was comforting (and distracting) to have them all together.  What does this family do when Mother Nature decides to throw us some shade???
We cooked 71 lbs of crawfish and consumed a lil bit! of beer and vino!!
AND I usually had mass quantities of grandchildren with me!!!!
GREAT distraction!!

Mr. Austin Rex had his birthday party at SciPort, a learning and fun experience for kids in our town. He was SO happy to have his cousins and friends come to share it with him! (couldn't get him to smile for this pic~)
It was a Hunt for Dinosaur party!!
they made fossils!
Aunt Amy helped lil Josey!
they hunted in the sand for fossils and baby dinosaurs!
Babies were just happy the big kids left so they could get IN the sandbox!!
There were activities for all the kids

Austin loved making a volcano!

And making his own ice cream for the party!
He also couldn't wait to hug his cousin, Case, when he got there!!
And lil Josey, who used to be our baby until a month ago!, is not so sure about this new one who has taken her status away!!!
but it's ok......her daddy's got her!
this is prolly my most fave pic so far of these two!! and babyLane looks like a little doll!
Last, but by far not least to him,  Birthday Presents!! All kinds of dinosaurs!!
It was a GOOD day!!

Another milestone in our family happened yesterday.  As we all know, our family is a family of hunters.  My husband has hunted all his life and taught our boys, at a very young age, to love the sport of hunting as well.  They spent many an hour hunting together ... bonding, learning from each other and loving their times together. Growing up together. And I vividly remember the day my boy's grandfather gave them their first gun.  Only fitting that Cap'n give his first grandchild her first one.
Her??  Oh yeah.....her dad will be teaching her to love it just as he does. And spending quality time teaching her the importance of gun safety, hunting rules and the laws of the land.
They are spending weekend at the deer camp and Cap'n thought it a perfect time to gift her!
She wasn't real sure why her Cap'n was there when she got off the school bus yesterday but anxiously listened to his every word..
It's PINK camo, of course!
Along with the pink cap he got for her......this man buying pink???? Never thought I'd see the day!!!
A day for her memory book!!

(she later told me that her daddy was so proud and happy because she thought she saw a tear in his eye!...that little girl never misses a thing)

Whew!!  and Easter is just a week away??  Egg Hunt will be done in a boat with a net and a paddle this year!

FLOOD - ING of 2016

The reason for the ING above is because it is still going on.  We are hoping that the river will crest today.  Not sure how much more we can take.  BUT to preface this post, I must say that there are so many more worse off than us today.  Hundreds have lost everything they have and the water is up to their roof lines.  We continue to pray that it won't actually get into the interior of our lake house.

Our camp before:
Yesterday:
Thats the driveway between those 2 trees
Pool before:
this was Friday:
This was Saturday:
This was yesterday:
The pool and hot tub are somewhere under there, no doubt filled to the brim with fish and other unspeakable species.
The house itself is high off the ground and you can only imagine the "things" that are stored underneath it.  Last weekend, we knew alot of rain was coming so we did our usual "pick everything up" chores and called it a day.  We've done it a thousand times......but never in the 19 years we've owned our lakehouse, has it flooded to this extent. In fact, the last flood like this happened in 1966...50 years ago!  There was a freezer, filled, and a refrigerator underneath that are no more. Plus, the city shut off all electricity to the area last Friday, so the ones in the house are prolly not so happy either.
It is so sad.
I must add that my boyfriend has been the true hero in all of this!  He parks his truck at the highest point and then drives the boat to our house,  Has picked our stuff up to higher points many many times. Till there was no higher places left, He has been there day after day doing all the dirty work, waking up with sore bones every morning. Doing all he can to protect it .... even tho Mother Nature has the final say so..
And the clean up is going to be hmmmmm......don't think I can think of a nice enough word to describe that.
BUT....
we have not lost the structure and there are many who have.
So....we're lucky there.
Waiting paitently to hear if it's crested yet and wondering just how long it will take it to recede.
I'm choosing to only think of the "joys" of having a camp on the lake today!!!
