First Word Friday.....on Monday...

Julia at Drawn to the Sea has begun a really fun thought/writing challenge on her blog. She has beautiful photographs and is a girl after my own heart....a woman who has sea water running thru her veins!! I didn't really follow her guidelines correctly last week so I wanted to honor her here with a sampling for all of you. Be sure to visit her blog when you can.....you will lose yourself in her words and photographs!!
Her words: "Posting in short bursts invites you to interact, to be part of the process. Sometimes I simply offer a little vignette... & hope it speaks to you, or through you. Will you share a little of the story you see in the photo above, in three sentences or less?"
Here is a picture for you to ponder on and fill in with your thoughts in the comments section.
Your opening phrase......"Time to......" in three sentences or less.
Explore your soul. Express yourself. You may surprise yourself in the process!!!

Saturday afternoons in Autumn...

Now, I could just stop this post with that one picture. Cuz, let's face it, what else is there?
LSU football........cool, sunny days where the leaves occasionally fall to the ground and more SEC conference games!! But wait! Stop the Boat!!! There is something else......

Your boyfriend making chicken & sausage gumbo!! On the deck while party barges ride past........WHILE watching the LSU tigers play!!!

He does an excellent job too!

Bubbling and boiling...

Finished Product!!! can you smell the 'yum factor'??!!What's cuter than having your boyfriend watch his fave team with his pot of gumbo behind him?

Is that a beautiful site or what? >>

~~Sigh~~... a marvelous day to be a Tiger fan....AND to have such a cool boyfriend!!

......and um.....this is what 'I' did while he worked!
It was a leetle cool for the pool so I just cranked the heat on in the hot tub, put my raft in and read most of the afternoon!! Heheh.

Ms. Lilli's Quiet Haven....

Yesterday, I had the honor of being able to do a little decorating in ms. thang's nursery! (in case any of you DON'T know...I'm going to be a first time grandmother soon! To a bebe girl!!)
Her mom and dad had already gotten the furniture and bedding and I was asked to 'spruce' up the room a bit. BINGO! Anyone who knows me also knows that I do love me up some decorating....all I really need is a reason!
They really didn't want the room painted so I decided to use one whole wall as a focal point in a way that could easily be re-done when the time comes. Up goes the fabric, and the ribbon, the funky lights and BAM.......it's done! One of my girlfriends went with me to help with the holding and hammering and glueing...........and we laughed and laughed and laughed. And cussed. But what fun would doing a new room be without the cussing, eh?!!
I was happy with the outcome and I think the babymama liked it too........so a win, win all around!!

In the basket on the right are some of my son's fave books that he loved as a toddler...thought it was time for him to have them for his children!

oops...crooked shot!

there are ladybugs in her bedding so when I saw these ladybugs on plants at the lakehouse, I knew they had to go in Lilli's room!
Proud babymama and babydaddy!! and jackson, who was NOT happy to have me talking to him about his new babysister!

"Sweet Dreams my darling, the day is done. The moon is here to say goodnight to the sun.Gather your blankets and climb into bed.Close your eyes and lay down your head.
Rest for now with peaceful dreams,Of twinkling stars and shining moon beams.
Sweet dreams my darling, sweet dreams my love,Sweet dreams my precious gift from above." ~Kimberly L. Brennan~

God's Holy Light....

Bruce Springsteen recorded a song, Cautious Man, a long time ago that I love. There are some lyrics in the song that speak of God's Holy Light. Of course, in context, he's singing about a beautiful ray of light shining on his sleeping wife, but that one line just always takes my breath away. I guess anything coming out of the boss's mouth tends to make one swoon....there's that!

So, yesterday when I happened to catch ms. sophiejane catching a few zzzz's in the living room, I just had to capture it. She loves the sunshine and will follow it to lie in whereever she can find it.
Late yesterday afternoon, there was only one stream of light coming in thru the front door....and she found it! Now, not to compare this picture to the beauty of light shining upon a sleeping wife, but come on...........it was pretty damn cute. And the first thing that came to mind was God's Holy Light.........sorry bruce, but I just borrowed one of your lines!!

Do I have to pick my head up AGAIN for you to photograph me, mom???

Um...lil crazy?? or not?

My name is Crazy and I have a fettish for little, creepy people. Well, not real people, but the little fairy types of people. The ones you set on your tables at Christmas time ... like lil Santa's or elves. Only I like them out all the time. Something about their faces and expressions that just makes me smile. Their eyes are usually a little loopy with twinkles and the mouths are usually crooked, yet infectious! My friends think I'm nuts. That a normal, sane person would not like to look at these fairies all the time much less have them make you chuckle. But guess what? Call me nuts, call me crazy............I like 'em!!
So, while getting out some fall decorations, I found ms. Em. Don't know why but she just looks like a ms. Em. (Ok, my real life friends are laughing their butts off right now!!) And I thought I'd show you a picture of her and some of my other 'friends'.....!!!

and then I have this lil man that I keep out yr. round because I just think he's so cute!
Ok, Ok...........ahem*. Ok. I admit this one is a leetle bit creepy looking but he looks so cute sitting upon the shelf in the corner!!!

Umbrellas.......

so boring. Umbrellas. But alas.....that's what I've had half opened in my car for the last 5 days. Because it has been raining. And raining. And raining some more. So, needless to say, not much has been going on around here. I've thought about cleaning out some closets...nada. Thought about going thru pictures to get some sort of organization going on there....nada. Have read a book, tho.....and that's always a good thing!

My boyfriend asked me why I hadn't written on the blob lately and when I told him why...he said, "Why don't you just write about the rain??" So..........this one's for you, boyfriend!! But what would make him even happier? To see a picture of an umbrella used for an entirely different reason.........one that will float around his brain and remind him of happy days on the seas!!
Treasure Cay beach in the Abacos Islands!~~sigh........this was a very nice day!!

**back to add.............Look at how wet it's been! The sunflower seeds in my birdfeeder have sprouted!!!!! If I didn't really want the cardinals to come back, I would have left them to see if I could have had sunflowers growing outa the feeder!!

Lo and Behold..........as I type this, the sun has just cast some shadows into the yard!! YAY!!! But really? How can I ever gripe about a few rainy days when this is what I see on sunny days??!!!!!!!!

Yep. It's that time. Time to go home. Close up the lakehouse Summer is over and the next season approaches. Home. It's where my boys grew up and where they like to come home to. Not to mention how happy my home makes me!! So, this morning was spent cleaning out the fridge, washing clothes and locking up!

MONEY spent on food for entertaining and summertime fun?.......Lots.
TIME spent on preparations for summertime fun?..........Lots.
All the LAUGHTER and LOVE received from summers at the lake?........Priceless!!

~~sigh~~Summer was Fine in 09!!
(And leaving with a closet full of clean, folded towels!!)

Just chatter.......

So, Labor Day has come and gone once more. Summer days are becoming shorter and the school buses are rolling again. And signs, signs are everywhere that fall is upon us. One of those being spider lily's!! And I must share a story with you......
My boyfriend...I am his bride! .... loves spider lily's. Loves, loves, loves them. I think they remind him of his growing up days and he has always anticipated finding them sprouting up all over the place. It's funny......it's like one day there are none and the next they are in every yard, in every patch of pasture, alongside every highway. So, last yr, he decided that he wanted them in our yard at the lake. He dug up and transplanted many, many bulbs. I'd really forgotten about them until Sunday. We were strolling our real estate....that's our way of saying "Let's walk around the yard and see how all the plants and grass are doing!"...when I spotted the spiny beginnings of the spider lily's!!!! As I pointed them out to him, he just kinda smiled and said, "I feel so proud!!!" He was adorable!! So we continued on our walk, finding them popping up all over the place, each one being in a different stage of opening. Some small. Some tall. Some almost open and only one fully open so far. It will be fun to watch the daily progress of all of his work as the reds blaze in their glory! (See what you do when you get old!!)

We're moving home this week and it only seems fitting to give him a 'going away from the lake for the weekdays' gift!
This is for you, my love, for making my life sparkle every single day!

Praying....

for an LSU win tonight!!
Ya see? Tonight is our first game of the season. And our Tigers are traveling all the way to Seattle to play. I read somewhere that this is the longest road trip they've EVER taken. And really....that's just a bit too far from home. Not to say that there won't be thousands of LSU fans there. There will be. That's just how LSU rolls. Their fans support them thru thick and thin and will follow them anywhere they go. One of my bff's from here..her son is going to the game. Sharing a hotel room with 13 other boys.
Hmmmmmmm.........we'll see how THAT turns out!!

But I digress. Another reason that we really have to win this game is because I kinda converted several friends from Spokane into LSU ho's. And their men too. So much so, that they even laugh about sending their kids there for college. Seems they never watched college ball till I was visiting up there 2 seasons ago on our first game day of that season. I talked the menfolk into watching the game and they became addicted..........we also happened to win the national championship that yr. too, so that helps one become interested in watching the games and yelling Go Tigers every Saturday afternoon!! So the story continues....

THOSE BEYOCHES AND THEIR MEN ARE GONNA BE AT THE GAME TODAY. AND I'M NOT! Now, is that really fair? Beside the point. It's so ironic that the very ones that had never watched college football and now love MY tigers......are gonna be in the same stadium with them IN THEIR NECK OF THE WOODS..........well, I'm just sayin........

WE HAVE TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be willing to bet that some LSU fans AND my WA friends will prolly look like this by the end of the night..................heheh. No matter who wins!!!

HOW 'BOUT THEM TIGERS?!!!!!!!!!!!!

A SOUTHERN CHICK'S VIEW OF SUMMER SLIPPING INTO FALL

As I sit on the deck of our lakehouse, I find myself feeling all of my senses at once. You know how it is, we go thru our days like robots. Get this done, get that done...accomplish goals that we've set for ourselves.....and do it in a hurry. But one morning last week, our weather changed. The morning air was cool, almost chilly...which is a word that is thrown around loosely in the south, for what feels chilly to us is still deep summer to folks above the Mason Dixon line! But I felt change. Breezes and smells. The look of the trees, not yet losing leaves, but beginning to let go of their grasp, while losing the deep, rich greens that they exhibit during summer months. A few cypress trees were even glowing a bit of orange when the sun hit them at just the right angle. So, I decided to sit. To feel the air. To breathe deeply so I could smell the rich aromas of the fall-like air. To look at every color of all the trees now so I can remember when the first sightings of color change would be. To listen to the hummingbird's 'buzz' for they will be gone soon for the season too, not to return until spring comes back around the corner. The only sense I was missing was the sense of taste, albeit my coffee was tasting very good this morning...but when I closed my eyes, I actually could imagine the bacon cooking at a campground full of Labor Day campers, using this last weekend of summer to quench their needs for the outdoors. And we all know, there isn't a better smell in the world than a pan of bacon frying in the outdoors on a slightly chilly fall morning!!
So, I sat down to write. To write the things I was seeing, hearing and feeling on this morning, as summer slip-slides into fall:

~the breezes push the soft ripples in the water toward the south
~the faint call of the crow soothes me in familiarity
~little American flags, on the deck, blowing in unison as a backdrop for the last of the flowering plants
~the hummingbirds sashaying in and out with such a hurried plan to get to their food; like a nursing baby excitedly searches for its mother's milk
~the greens are everso slowly beginning their ritual of turning, first to a dull lighter green, then to yellow to orange to brown
~in the distance is the muted sound of the fishermen. Talking and laughing and as if on cue....their corks plop into the water. Then there is silence among them. It's probably this therapy of solutude in the arms of companionship that keeps bringing them back to the waters
~somewhere, far away, I hear the sounds of water tumbling over rocks and falling like the twitter of angel wings into a bigger body of liquid
~soothing. relaxing. enchanting. meloncholy. therapeutic.

These feelings fuel my soul and allow me the intimacy to look inside, feel the calmness and the acknowledgement that this moment in my life is good. It's what He intended for me....this little southern taste of heaven on earth. I thank Him. I applaud Him. I ~~sigh~~ with contentment!!

Side trip on the Road Trip...heh!

So, last week when my girly friends and I went to the pottery cottage, we, of course, took a lil side trip to BeeHive........yep, that's the name of it. A store that has clothing, shoes, jewelry, home furnishings, a monogram baby boutique.........if it was located in south louisiana, it would have been named Lagniappe -- a little bit of everything or something extra!! Needless to say, we had a ball in there and all of us walked out with a lil sumpin, sumpin!

Since I started reading Kim's blog at Daisy Cottage, I have yearned for red mirrors. She has the coolest cottage with amazing photos........and some yumminess in her love for red! Well, the BeeHive just so happened to have some red mirrors that ended up coming home with me. I hung them above my mom's antique Hot Chocolate set that I ooohed and ahhhed over in my childhood. It sat high above a cabinet in our kitchen when I was growing up...I was not allowed to touch it except when it was brought down for cleaning and then only with my mom's supervision. I heart it everso. And there is never a time when I look at it, that I don't go over and touch it and smile and think about my mom.
Wanna look?

and shelving I also found at BeeHive to keep dishes and glassware on!
